"Lift each other up." Those words spoken by Galesburg High School Guidance Counselor Ben Bredemeier encompassed the theme of an assembly that took place this morning at GHS.
Students and staff filled the lower level of the school's auditorium to watch a presentation by the MWAH! Performing Arts Troupe about the effects of losing fellow students far too young.
Fatal car crashes and bullying induced suicides were discussed.
The lives of 17-year old KaLee Pringle and 15-year-old Kylie Allen were remembered. The two GHS students were killed in a car wreck this past August, after a Friday night football game.
In a heartfelt message to students, Bredemeier spoke about Pringle's character, and encouraged students to follow in her footsteps.
"She never let the challenges or the obstacles in her life define her," says Bredemeier. "When she needed help she found helpa true sign of strength. It's very evident that she had people in her life that not only cared about her, but that she cared about as well. You have a great opportunity to be a positive role model, set a positive example, and be a positive difference in somebody's life."
Other speakers included State Representative Don Moffitt, and mother's Angie McCarthy and Jennifer Higgins.
McCarthy lost her son, 18-year-old Tyson Twitchell to a car wreck in 2013. Joshua Wilson, the son of Higgins, took his own life as a result of bullying near the Geneseo area.
