Seventh-grader Onesha Bush of Ellis Middle School in Elgin is serenaded by MWAH! performer Carlos Griffin on December 2, 2005. Bush is one of five Ellis students with a loved one deployed in Iraq. MWAH! - Messages Which Are Hopeful - is part of a statewide community service network targeting at-risk youths. It is an affiliate of the Chicago Area Project, a grass-roots service and advocacy agency based in downtown Chicago. In Elgin the troupe performed before the entire student body, focusing on such issues as bullying, teen dating violence, and healthy alternatives to alcohol and other drugs. The current MWAH! artists live in Aurora, Naperville, Wheaton, and DeKalb. |
