MWAH! rocks Monroe County
Chicago Area Troupe brings message of hope
Brian Chambers, News Editor Dave Paxton, Publisher
The MWAH! Performing Arts Troupe from the Chicago area brought their unique mix of song, dance, and dialogue on October 12, 2009, to Albia Community High School in Albia, Iowa. Joining the Albia youth were students from the Moravia and Moulton-Udell school districts, who were bused to Albia for the event. Among the teen-focused issues addressed were abusive relationships, cyber-bullying, racism, and the tragic consequences of using alcohol and other drugs. The audience was asked to participate in a number of sketches, and Albia Police Chief Jim Gritman spoke about the dangers faced daily by teenagers. Pictured are four teenagers chosen by school staff as heroes being serenaded with the song Hero by MWAH! members. Shown from left are Cassie Ward and Cade Comstock of Albia, Willie Lewis of Moravia, and Mandalyn Martin of Moulton-Udell. The MWAH! singers are (from left) Henrik Olson, Whitney McDermott, Alex Oechsel, and Christian Honn. (photo by Brian Chambers, news editor, Monroe County News)
